About Me
I grew up in a bilingual home in Valenciennes, France,
and Port Elizabeth, South Africa,
analysing subtitled and dubbed films with my family, which were sometimes riddled with errors
that had us in hysterics.
This is where my love for languages
and audiovisual translation was born.
EDUCATION
I studied French literature at Rhodes University and NMMU, South Africa, where I graduated Cum Laude after specialising in translation and subtitling. This inspired me to study a Master’s course in audiovisual translation at UCL. I was the first Master’s student at UCL to write a dissertation on the topic of audio description, for which I created innovative guidelines for the audio description of the horror and thriller film genres.
AUDIOVISUAL WORK
I have subtitled for the deaf and hard of hearing, translated to and from French and English, created voiceover templates and written scripts for the audio description of films, series, adverts and seminars, as well as transcribed podcasts and translated technical manuals, for direct clients and translation agencies across Europe and the UK. I enjoy a challenge and will not rest until the work meets my client’s and my own standards.
CONSULTING
I am available for consulting on translation, audiovisual and linguistic projects. Aside from the creation of guidelines for the audio description of the horror and thriller film genres, I have also partnered with the University of Edinburgh to create guidelines for the ethical translation and subtitling of sensitive content, which you can find here. I have also run cultural and linguistic seminars for Alliance Française in Gqeberha, South Africa.
